Getting started

  • Installation
  • First alignment
    • Start to finish
    • With your own data

Components

  • StarList and StarTable
    • The data model
    • Column naming conventions
    • Epochs are UTC decimal years
    • Putting it together
    • Where the pieces live
  • Motion models
    • The models
      • Fixed parameters
      • Where fixed parameters live
    • How a model gets chosen
      • Choosing a model versus propagating with one
    • The time-argument contract
    • Uncertainties
      • Weighting
      • The absolute_sigma convention
      • Unusable uncertainties get weight zero, not a bad weight
      • A degenerate fit is reported, not guessed
      • Empirical errors by bootstrap
    • Fitting: one star or a whole table
      • Two asymmetries between the two paths
      • Bootstrap and parallelism
    • Performance
      • On number of stars
      • On number of epochs
      • How it was measured
    • Adding new models
      • What to declare
      • What to implement
      • Pick n_params with the others in mind
      • Non-linear models
      • Testing a new model
  • Transformations
    • Choosing a model
    • Raising the order as the fit converges
    • Giving one list its own transformation
  • Alignment
    • The parameters, group by group
      • Per-iteration schedules
      • Matching
      • The initial guess
      • The transformation
      • Which stars drive the fit
      • Per-star freeze control: update_ref_motion
      • Motion fitting
      • Output and bookkeeping
    • What fit() produces
    • Matching
    • Controlling which stars drive the fit
    • Parallelism
    • Getting to an absolute frame
